UN CLIMATE CHIEF RESIGNS
22 February 2010
Yvo de Boer, the Dutch head of the UN’s climate change body for 4 years has unexpectedly stepped down. De Boer said he will leave in July but had announced his resignation now, to allow the UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon to find a successor before the 192 countries meeting in Mexico in November.
De Boer is the world’s most experienced climate change negotiator, and the UN face a hard task to find a replacement for what are seen as the most complex negotiations attempted under the UN system.
