LANDMARK CLIMATE REPORT RELEASED BY OBAMA ADMINISTRATION
19 June 2009
The report called "Global Climate Change Impacts in the United States", brings together tangible evidence of the impact of climate change until now. It also makes detailed predictions of the real-life consequences later this century of a failure to reduce carbon emissions, giving examples such as the submersion of North Carolina’s beaches.
The study is a joint effort by more than 30 scientists working across 13 government agencies. It is part of a government plan to build public support for Obama’s energy reform agenda, and to boost the prospects of a climate change bill that at present has opposition from some Democrats, as well as Republicans in Congress.
